Q. Some major retailers were recently accused of selling fake supplements. What advice would you give your clients around supplements?
A. Walking in to a supplement store or searching online for supplements can be extremely overwhelming. There are so many companies and products in the market. It's hard to tell with some supplements if they are even working. You just have to trust that they are. You should be very conscious about what you are putting in your body.
Some advice that I give when looking to purchase supplements are:
1. Do your research. Talk to your fitness professional friends and ask them what they are taking or what companies they would recommend purchasing supplements from. Referrals are a great source of information.
2. Be very careful when ordering supplements on line that make bold promises and guarantees. If they offer a money back guarantee make sure to read the fine print on the terms and conditions.
3. When you are doing your research check out the company's website. A lot of really good companies will have an Ambassador program with elite/professional athletes and/or endorsements from very reputable people. There is a really good chance these guys did their due diligence on what they are putting in their body. I am not referring to fitness models either.
