This is the day and age that we are struggling to get ourselves out of our chairs. It seems if when we’re working we are sitting at the computer and if we are relaxing we are stretched out in front of the TV. Well you have to begin somewhere so if you’re banging away at the keyboard don’t forget to have some of your favorite music on. Start by foot tapping, then stand and do some light stretching exercises. You can even step it up with a quick set of jumping jacks or push-ups. After doing this several times you’ll see that you feel less stiff and it won’t take you as long to get up from your chair.
Go out walking whenever you can and if you have to pick up some stuff from the local grocery store make sure you park where you have to walk a couple of blocks at least to get to the store. If you are sitting in front of the TV when it’s a commercial break, take a break yourself and do some sit-ups or take that exercise bike and put it in front of the TV and sit on that and not the comfy armchair.
When you arrive at the office and you only have to go up say four flights then take the stairs. All of this can help you on your way to a much healthier and more active lifestyle.
There are plenty of activities to get involved with outdoors. You can take up walking, running or bike riding. If you have the opportunity during your busy day go out when you take a break and walk briskly for at least 15 to 20 minutes before you sit down again. If you have children, the opportunity for exercise is practically unlimited. Take your kids to the park, play ball, play games with them, take the dog along and you’ll see what great fun it is to be active in the great outdoors. Don’t be the parent that sits on the bench while the kids play.
Indoors you can find a multitude of activities as well. Put on some music and do some aerobic type vacuuming, bounce about as you do household chores or put on a workout video. Your body will thank you for it and you’ll feel much better. Find different ways to exercise even when shopping. Looking for things on the lower shelves do some squats and on the top shelves do some stretching exercises.
Keeping yourself in motion is the way to a better you. Your body will get slimmer and trimmer and you won’t feel like dragging through the day. Some brisk walks in the fresh air gets the cobwebs out of your head and you’ll see that even your work goes faster. Anything and everything to get you up and going is good for you and your health. Soon you won’t be feeling afternoon tired and forgo that nap. Get outside and loose the sleepy feeling. Anytime you’re walking put some pep in your step and strengthen those leg muscles.
